Use only 1cup vinegar to 2 gallons of warm water to mop vinyl flooring.
Keep your chimney flue clean by throwing a handful of salt into a blazing fire.
Air fresheners work by deadening your sense of smell. Make your own with water and a few drops of essential oil, such as lemongrass or sweet orange. Or, leave a small bowl of vinegar in the room.
DMSO or dimethylsulfoxide is one of the strongest solvents you can get - took the finish right off the table I spilled some on! A natural by-product of the wood industry, it's also known as horse liniment and will soothe many ailments such as a hurting back or knee. I use it when my sciatic nerve starts acting up. Used at night, the pain is gone in the morning. The area of skin where you apply it must be clean, as DMSO goes immediately through your skin and crosses the blood/brain barrier, taking anything with it. Just make sure you don't have anything, such as pesticide, on your skin. It can cause a sunburn-type rash if your skin is very sensitive, so you can dilute it with pure or distilled water 50/50. Since it goes into your blood system, you may get a garlicky taste in your mouth, which is normal. Available at feed supply stores, it was the scapegoat for the thalidomide tragedies and outlawed for human use except for a type of bladder infection, but who listens to the FDA anymore? It works...too well. Amazing, odd stuff - it freezes at 65 degrees F. Its medical uses would see a major decline in deaths or after-effects of stroke and paralysis from spinal cord injuries. Read "The Persecuted Drug: The Story of DMSO" by Pat McGrady, Sr. or look it up online.
There are few things I need to buy new. Everything else is purchased from yard sales or thrift stores: All clothing and shoes (including designer for those who think that's important) except underwear; pots and pans costing hundreds for a couple of bucks; workshop, home and garden tools and supplies; books; gifts, many brand-new and unopened for any snobs you might give to; wrapping paper; art; craft and hobby supplies; jewelry; linens and towels; furniture; shelving; draperies and curtains; area and throw rugs; vacuums, floor scrubbers; irons and boards; pens and pencils; car-care and boating supplies; toys; camping gear and equipment; flatware; tableware; various sundries - you name it. I can't tell you how many thousands of dollars I've saved and it's fun!
