We need to know the full extent of Sen. Obama's relationship with ACORN, who is now on the verge of maybe perpetrating...

-----------------------------------

In McCain's first statement in this excerpt, he finishes by saying we need to absolutely not stand for the things that have been going on regarding what Shieffer asked about, i.e. the nastiness. His very next statement is "Yes, real quick. Mr. Ayers, I don't care about an old washed-up terrorist. But as Sen. Clinton said in her debates with you, we need to know the full extent of that relationship... Acorn...". So, McCain says it is unacceptable and we need to not stand for it, but by the way, Ayers and Acorn.

I watched this debate at a debate party with four other people and when McCain did that we all looked at each other and said the same thing, "He just said that the personal attacks and nastiness were unacceptable, but... Ayers and Acorn". That is borderline insane behavior. It absolutely is erratic and strange. Besides the erratic and strange nature of it, McCain appeared angry, nasty and small. In short, he did not look Presidential. Judging from how people are voting regarding who won the debate, I think it struck people as bizarre and it also was irritating because it took time away from the economic things they wanted to hear discussed.

I think that a lot of pundits are going to pick soundbites like the running against Bush soundbite and a lot of conservative pundits in particular are going to think this was a good debate for McCain, I just do not think he did well with the people he needed to reach. The Freepers at Free Republic are going crazy thinking that their side won, but I dont think McCain won a single vote tonight. In addition to not addressing the issues that people want to hear about, he didn't offer anything new on any issue. We've all heard about Ayers before. We heard about McCain's take on the tax issue and the spending issue. He said the same exact things before and those things have put him behind by double digits.

On every channel after the debate, their polls all are saying Obama won the debate by a wide margin, 20% or more. As I posited, they do not care about the typical Republican talking points or the attacks. This election is about different things than what the past several elections have been about and McCain never got that. On November 4th, he will pay the price.
