In reference to the $30 billion natural gas pipeline Sarah Palin wants, she asked fellow church members to pray for her natural-gas pipeline project saying "I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that." Pastor Kalnins, a firm believer in the rapture, went on to say that Alaska is where those of us living in the lower 48 would migrate to "in the final days" because of the abundance of natural resources. Not only does Palin hold his views, she has stated her belief that what comes from her church has great destiny with regard to Alaska.
Is Sarah Palin unconcerned about anthropogenic climate change because she believes that the proper response to global warming is spiritual preparation for the End Times? "A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I'm not one, though, who would attribute it to being man-made."
With regard to Iraq, Palin told her church "Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God... That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan." Sound familiar? Shouldn't McCain be upfront and simply tell us he is running on the same messianic Guns and God policy platform as his predecessor? Perhaps Palin believes God will finance His plan by raining down upon us one trillion dollars like manna from the heavens to help pay for the failed war for oil policies of his emissaries, George Bush and John McCain.
Sarah Palin's church also embraces the message of David Bricker, the founder of Jews for Jesus. When Bricker was invited to speak with her congregation several weeks ago, he explained for them that the terrorist attacks on Israelis as God's "judgment of unbelief" of Jews who haven't embraced Christianity. Lord only knows what they believe was the reason for 9/11.
Was McCain aware of the pregnancy of Palin's daughter and not aware that Palin cut funding for Covenant House Alaska and Passage House for teenage mothers in excess of 20 percent, from $5 million to $3.9 million? Does he not see that coupled with his own voting record towards teen mothers, this is opposite of the family values platform he is promoting with his VP pick?
Has McCain not seen the Youtube video showing Palin repeatedly giggling and laughing every time the shock jock radio host, Bob Lester, described Lyda Green, the Alaskan state senate president and cancer survivor, as being a “cancer” and a “bitch” throughout the show, rather than Palin letting Lester know his actions were most unacceptable?
John McCain has yet to adequately explain his vetting process for the second highest, possibly even the highest, position in the United States or why this monumental decision was based on two face to face meetings with Palin lasting most likely a total of one hour, along with a vetting process which produced a research file containing no on the ground investigation in Sarah Palin's own community or even her local newspapers. We have yet to hear from John McCain the reason why his campaign advisors told the The Washington Post his Vice-Presidential pick had been subjected to an F.B.I. background check even though, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, neither Sarah Palin nor her family were vetted by this agency.
Should Americans support a candidate for Vice-President who does not show a family history of fully and wholeheartedly supporting the unity of our nation or the integrity and viability of the borders of the United States? Should Americans trust the decision making processes of an elderly, heath compromised candidate for President who did not even have the good judgment to fully vet his pick for Vice-President, his possible successor, before his hasty decision was made final? If John McCain made his decision to hand us an unvetted running mate under the stress of the final days leading up to the Republican Convention, should we trust his decision making abilities during even more stressful times of foreign policy crisis? Should we chose a candidate for President who would recklessly gamble with the national security interests of our country in order to win over a critical evangelical voting block within his party?
Americans are asking more questions than John McCain asked about his own Vice-Presidential pick and we are waiting for answers, Mr. McCain.
