Saint Augustine lived 1400 years before Karl Marx, who found his words sensible enough to ironically paraphrase.
It is apparent that McCain and Palin are attacking Obama for being a follower of Jesus. Obama, in using the phrase, seems merely to have been paraphrasing Jesus who, according to the gospels, commanded his followers to "Spread the wealth."
