And then, in the early 50's -" the super monster-of-monsters emerged: TELEVISION!
But I mustn't let myself go astray! Just remember my prior assertion: movies and Broadway shows -" and I shouldn't leave out hillbilly music later to be called "country"- had been the main sources of popular music. These songs dealt principally with love and the emotions associated with it: rapture, sadness, jealousy, sorrow, etc. The lyrics (most of which were written after the melodies had been created) involved various types of those emotions in listeners, depending on what was happening or had happened in their lives.
Now let me get to the point of this piece: I am 83 years old, and still playing the piano. In addition to regular gigs, I've always done much playing for seniors. They've strongly related to this music, because it of how it has related to their own personal memories. And they've demonstrated their positive reactions by singing along, laughing and applauding.
In recent years. I began to realize that my audiences were not reacting to the music I was playing. .
The newer seniors no longer related to this type of music! They wanted Elvis, Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc. etc. What was my reaction?
I'M OUTTA HERE!
Well, there are still seniors who love my kind of music, but healthy 70-80-90 year-olds are hard to find! Furthermore, they are very unlikely to be spending much time at their computers.
This is bad news for me, because I have a web site, www.songtale.com, which offers a number of albums through CDBaby.com -" but even albums are being replaced by downloading. (An album itself can be downloaded.)
