"Four police vans are provided to a single minister when he moves, but not a single patrolling car of police was deputed outside the hotel that hosts several foreigners," Sadruddin Hashwani, owner of the hotel, said.
Agencies add: The United Nations cancelled all its activities in Peshawar for an indefinite period following the death of two of its staffers in the car bomb attack on the hotel.Talking to Geo TV, a UN spokesman said the UN World Food Programme (WFP) was working on the supply of food to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Malakand.
He said all three WFP staff staying in the hotel lost their lives in the attack. "Aleksandar Vorkapic, a Serbian with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and Perseveranda So, a Unicef employee from the Philippines, were also killed in the attack on the Pearl Continental Hotel," he added.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon strongly condemned the Tuesday's deadly terrorist attack.A statement issued by the UN secretary-general's spokesperson said Ban was saddened by the large number of people killed and wounded in the attack.
He said Alexander Vorkapic, the UNHCR employee, who died in the attack, was part of an emergency team recently sent to Pakistan to assist the current displacement crisis."The secretary-general extends his condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and the people of Pakistan, and wishes those injured a full recovery," the spokesman added.
