Dollar's daughter's reticence in stating the truth in the presence of her parents mirrors the black community's reserve when it comes to speaking out about church scandals such as Dollar's. In a news coverage piece, reporter Renee Gardner of Rolling Out TV has the most salient point of the issue in her closing statement of coverage:

"The problem...is that the  lack community as a whole is afraid to speak out. ...And when we do get to get a chance to show how the black community feels, we shun it."

Wow.

Inside that statement could be the kernel of why Eddie Long and Creflo Dollar's congregations are so cult-like.

The case of the daughter-choking prosperity preacher is not going away too soon: Dollar's fame, fortune, lavish lifestyle and above all, "fandom" have delineated what he is about. Perhaps in maintaining all of it, Dollar has become a male, ministerial "Mommy Dearest." A quote from the always-diplomatic Helen Hayes about Joan Crawford might be apropos:

"Joan tried to be everything to everybody. It's just too bad she tried to be a mother."

It may be too bad Creflo Dollar tried to be a father.

* "He blames everything on everyone in his congregation if their finances are not "right," says Anthea Butler  "It's very interesting when the preacher gets arrested for battery," said Anthea Butler, an associate professor of religious studies at the University of Pennsylvania. "We have to wait and see what the circumstances are surrounding the charges." But also notes that "Dollar is one of the most disciplinary, judgmental prosperity preachers on the circuit."

**On an odd note: finding out the names of Dollar's daughters is almost impossible: while they must be known to congregants, their names are withheld from Dollar's websites and even wikipedia. Strange.
