It's time to end the $3 billion annual aid that the U.S. gives to Israel. Why continue to have the taxpayers of America provide aid to Israel which has a strong, technologically advanced market economy, a solid manufacturing sector and spends much of this U.S. aid on increasing its military might. This is like the taxpayers of America throwing $3 billion into a black hole year after year.
And what's even worse is that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had the absolute audacity to say that "Israel urgently needs more financial aid from the United States for its offensive against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip" and then asked for an additional $225 million for Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system. That request should be immediately flushed down the toilet; to think that we should send Israel more money to use for unjustifiable destruction when this country has cities and infrastructures that are crumbling is the height of arrogance and ignorance.
Now let's talk about the United Nations and the fact that this world organization has, as part of its key purposes, the responsibility for maintaining international peace and security, promoting human rights, as well as adjudicating disputes between nations. The members of the UN Security Council, the body that has the power, have failed to initiate even one resolution aimed at addressing this crisis; it remains in a state of diplomatic paralysis, doing nothing whatsoever as the situation continues to escalate. This is a disgrace.
Israel keeps insisting that it has the right to defend itself and tries to fool the world into believing that it only acts in self defense, which is a sham and a myth. Here's an article that documents the fact that Israel has attacked 4 countries this year. And to further totally discredit Israel's claim that their attacks are strictly retaliatory how about this report that indicates that the UNRWA, a UN humanitarian agency, very recently warned the Israeli government some 17 times about the location of a girls' elementary school in order to protect it but, then, that very school came under attack and 15 children were reportedly killed.
To see further evidence of what is really going on, check out this article which reveals that the launching of Hamas' rockets was a response to Israel's initial attacks on Gaza. And of all things it seems to be coming from some kind of Israeli private think tank called ITIC, "which has close ties with the country's (Israel) military leadership."
What's amazing to me is watching two crises going on at the same time in different regions of the world; the one which involves the continuing battle between the Government of Ukraine and the pro-Russian separatists, and the second in which Israel is relentlessly bombing Gaza and its population that has no where to go to escape the bombardment.
In the case of Ukraine the U.S. government is 100% on the side of the established government in Kiev. It blames Russia and Putin for this entire bloody situation. And, as it main strategy it is continuing to place a myriad of powerful sanctions against Russia and urging its Western European allies to do the same. It is convinced that these powerful sanctions will eventually bring Russia to its knees and bring that military confrontation to an end.
But what we have in the other crisis involving Israel and Gaza is that the U.S., the UN and the world continue to watch the bloodshed and seem to have no inclination to try to bring an end to it. I understand that the government of the U.S. and Israel are joined at the hip and, further that the European nations are fully concentrating on the escalating situation in Ukraine, but what in the world is wrong with the UN?
