NOTE: Even the White House has acknowledged that President Obama's life could be in jeopardy, which as far as I know, is unprecedented. I won't bother to post their comments, but warn those, if any exist in his the administration that may take part in this heinous plot should calculate the violence that would reverberate across this nation - and know that the people will understand that such an act could not happen without someone betraying this administration. When the Mainstream News Media begins to run this story, I automatically become suspicious; how many times before have they "prepared" us through propaganda of events to come? If the MSM wasn't covering this story, and the White House making an unprecedented statement that the President's life could be in danger - I wouldn't have worried.
UPDATE: Why are we seeing a double standard?
Didn't the Secret Service used to arrest people that got near the President with a gun?So, let's tally that up: in the Bush years we had two guys detained for obliviously getting too close to President Bush with firearms, and a third given a lengthy jail sentence for threatening the president when he never had a firearm and was mentally ill.
In contrast, a guy showed up at President Obama's stop in Phoenix yesterday with a semi-automatic rifle promising, "We will forcefully resist people imposing their will on us through the strength of the majority with a vote." Sounds like fighting words to me.
So what happens when you carry a firearm near our new President and make vaguely threatening statements? Apparently nothing. The Republican Party leadership says nothing about the guns, and encourages voters on their side of the aisle to express their rage (see John Cook in Gawker). And their backbenchers, like Rep. Phil Gingrey of Georgia, encourage citizens to show up the president's events packing pistols, according to Raw Story: LINK
And then, we have this story:
Former agent: Gun-toters creating "atmosphere of danger' for Obama
By David Edwards and Daniel Tencer
Published: August 18, 2009
Updated 1 day agoAs many as 12 people openly carrying guns showed up at President Barack Obama's speech to the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Phoenix, Arizona, on Monday, adding to concerns about the recent trend of private citizens bringing weapons to presidential appearances.
Those people are "creating an atmosphere that could be dangerous to the president," a former Secret Service agent told MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Monday night.
Joseph Petro, author of Standing Next to History, a memoir of life in the Secret Service, told viewers of The Rachel Maddow Show that these types of incidents were not something the Secret Service typically encountered "" until now.
Bringing guns to political rallies "could incite or encourage one of those individuals at the [political] fringe [into] doing something dangerous or perhaps violent against the president," he said. "Maybe the politicians should look at lowering some of the rhetoric to try to create a more positive atmosphere." MUCH MORE
Each Day, there is more "News" about radicals, and now, according to RAW Story, Frank Rich at the N.Y Times is worried as well:
As violent rhetoric directed against the Obama administration has been ratcheted up over the summer, New York Times columnist Frank Rich has become increasingly concerned about similarities between the "political rage" he sees today and that which preceded the assassination of John Kennedy in 1963."I've been worried for some time, even before the events surrounding these health care town halls," Rich told MSNBC's Rachel Maddow on Wednesday. "It began during the campaign, where people were shouting "treason' and worse about Obama at Palin rallies -- and, essentially, no one in the Republican Party would condemn it. " It's just been stepping up ever since then."
Calls for violent revolution at some town halls have recently been made even more threatening by the open display of guns outside these events. A gun-toting online radio host who interviewed a friend carrying an assault rifle at an Obama event in Arizona a few days ago has been revealed as a vocal supporter of members of a militia group who were convicted in 1996 of plotting to blow up federal buildings.
