Congress may have passed legislation setting standards for lead and phthalates in toys that Bush signed it into law in August, but the gigantic folly in the room casting a befouled humbug on Christmas toy shopping is that the law is not retroactive.
Therefore, many toys on store shelves for the holiday season contain these two toxins, if not others.
Lead is of great concern, because it’s know to cause irreversible health problems from mild to severe to fatal.
Although advising parents not to buy their children any metal jewelry, in all his raving, idiotic wisdom a la George Bush, Ed Mierzwinski, program director of the U.S. Public Interest Research Group, said not to worry about lead based paint, because the levels of lead are usually pretty low.
This idiot can not only go “F” himself and the steed he road in on, but he can buy all those toys for his children and/or grandchildren.
Not only that, he can suck on them as a child would do, and see what happens after he’s ingested even a tiny amount of lead.
Where on Earth do these “stupids” come from and go straight to working for the government that’s supposed to protect us. And that includes those congressional nitwits who write consumer protection laws, yet don’t protect them by making the laws retroactive?
We need warning labels on toys as well as congressmen.
Warning: These things and people maybe hazardous to your health.
Unless consumers are aware of which countries have and continue to violate our health and safety laws, I suggest they hand make their little ones toys made of wood.
Let’s face it. We live in a very toxic world. Most plastics contain toxins, even those handy-dandy highly over-rated and expensive -- although most convenient -- water bottles we all carry around.
From plastic baby bottles to toys to plastic food wrap, we don’t know what the hell were buying or what they contain, or whether the components are good or bad.
We’re left with doing the best we can to protect the health of our children.
I have to laugh at the irony of Kate on Jon and Kate Plus Eight that airs on one of the Discovery channels. She’s always making a big deal out of buying organic food whenever she can, yet every baby bottle she used and every plastic glass her kids are constantly sucking on contain toxins.
All toys should be emblazoned with nontoxic LED signs proclaiming they are Made in America, just to add one small safety component to them.
