Mr. Obama's election came at a precipitous time. The whole planet Earth had had a bellyful of Bush-his incompetence, his deceitfulness, his mendacious policies at home and murderous policies abroad, his responsibility for the plunge in America's moral standing in the world-and  Mr. Obama arrived to offer eloquent promises of hope and change. In light of the American inflicted financial crisis that is engulfing the American world economies and which is about to get worse, a lot is riding on Mr. Obama's sincerity and willingness to begin carrying through on some of his important pledges.

This can't happen if the new Administration chooses to ignore the past, and there is some evidence that this seems to be the plan. America has been like a serial killer who gets up in the morning, prays to Jesus, goes about his grisly work and then says his nightly prayer 'Don't worry, Jesus. Maybe I'll try and do better tomorrow'. It's crazy.

Only a nation deluded enough to believe in Manifest Destiny (or 'Full Spectrum Dominance') could also believe that God smiles upon invasion and torture and murder and the degradation of all of humanity to the point that one must question the very value of life itself.

This is the real challenge facing President Obama. To try to excuse, ignore, or justify the past crimes of the Bush Administration would be 'leadership' to a future which is hardly worthwhile. Why bother? The Obama mantra of 'We must look forward' is as empty as 'Change' if none was intended. In the continuance of Bush era newspeak, 'Forward' means 'Backward'. More bankster plunder. More cluster bombs. Kidnapping and torture as usual. Murder. 'Obliterate' Iran. Pakistan. Afghanistan. Iraq. Weaponize space. Imprison ever more Americans, but not the right ones. Ignore torture in American prisons. Spy on everyone.

President Obama faces a challenge and opportunity unique to American history. He can help America become sane for the first time. Or he can just prescribe more tranquilizers.

But make no mistake. In the unlikely event that a God exists, He or She would be disgusted at the appalling wretchedness of the past eight years, and indeed most of American history, beginning with the founding genocide.

But if God existed, surely Bush and Cheney would have received a lightning bolt from above.

Maybe they'll get a jolt from Obama.

             Maybe God is insane.
