Whether a private citizen contemplating enlistment in our military, or a reporter who should have known, the first question to those proffering the allegation of some conspiracy would have been, “When and where, in the entire history of brutal tyrants, has a brutal dictator, such as was Hussein, tolerated an equal, which bin Laden was, and is, in his midst?”   

 

I spent 31 years in Silicon Valley. There, many, many parents care little whether their son or daughter knows anything concerning history. The heavy emphasis is on mastering science and math, disciplines they hope will serve their children well in technology-centered careers. But ignorance of history is not bliss. It was ignorance of history that led Tomas Young and too many others to the pain they must now live with, for the rest of their lives.
