I will note that Hoover's prohibition stance reminds me of Sarah Palin, Republican (good luck charm or ticket to demise, yet to be discerned). Her ultra Conservative views mixed with a little self inflicted evangelical will, confused with God's will; we may begin to lose civil liberties, like coins into a faulty soda machine. Kind of like what just happened within the Bush Administration (remember FISA).
So I move forward to the end of the depression and the president who was able to take America by the bullhorns, I think literally. The man who bravely stated, as if on the highest mountain on the American frontier, to all at his inauguration, " The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Democrat (March 4, 1933-April 12, 1945). He was the only president to have served more than 2 terms. He also brought us the New Deal, the Federal Deposit Insurance Commission (FDIC), the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Social Security Administration, shall I go on.
FDR was great! He was the one at that time that needed to be in play. A leader with an ability to speak to the hearts and souls of Americans, to give them strength when down and pull them out of the financial funk they had gotten into. FDR saw that there had to be major changes in order to make a lasting difference. And he made them, with the support of the American people.
Not only that, when it came to war, he maintained an only if necessary stance. Continuing to strengthen our military and make sure we could fight if needed. If there were ever a war we were needed in, it was the one to stop Hitler from massacring tens of thousands more Jewish.
Who does this New Deal talking, powerful, no fear speaker sound like? Who is confident they will bring true change and diversity to the American forefront? Who is going to be our next FDR?
Or, is America not yet desperate enough for a change from business as usual?
