The Green Party is the antithesis to the Democratic and Republican corporate brands of hope and change in this election. Unfortunately, McKinney, who had the nomination locked up months ago, has not been sticking her neck out there for the Party like Nader has been sticking his neck out for his Independent presidential campaign. Also, in interviews and press conferences, she is too kind to an Obama who claims to offer a change in the way America conducts politics yet refuses to break the cycle of moving to the right in elections from pragmatic centrist positions to gain votes and who did not listen to tens of thousands of supporters who demanded he get FISA right. Just being an alternative will not be enough to garner votes when the party’s structure is not built up enough to compete with the visibility and privileges the two wings of the war party that rules America enjoy. If McKinney really wants to run an effective "Power to the People" campaign, she will have to offer a sharp critique of the candidacy of Barack Obama to empower people disempowered by the top down structures of the Obama campaign. If Obama did not deserve an opposition, the Greens wouldn’t be creating a movement to show people they can vote their conscience, dreams, future, and most importantly, vote for their interests.
Run, Cynthia, run and go, Greens, go. Make this election a referendum on the Democratic Party that failed horribly since it claimed it would do so much for America in 2006. And do not fail to address the failings of Barack Obama’s candidacy because that is why the Green Party exists.
More importantly, do not fail to address the failings and myths purported by the Democratic Party that greatly infect this nation’s future.
