But getting back to the droves of Americans drawn by the millions to the likes of American Sniper; are they not unlike the German villagers in Germany in 1945, in deep denial to the reality in front of them; that America has become, a country the rest of the world sees as the greatest threat while it appears many Americans seem to have descended into glorifying the brutality we commit in our wars.
Maybe that's too sweeping a conclusion.
These type films of nationalistic propaganda are nothing new.
During and after WWII stars like John Wayne were depicted as heroes in his war movies while the Japanese in particular were portrayed as fiendish savages that deserved to be killed.
"Savages" is apparently how Kyle saw all Iraqi's; men, women, children alike. All were all savages so he had no remorse in killing them.
I don't know if the audience cheered the murderous exploits of the Kyle character.
Thankfully, some of us have outgrown our childhood hero worshipping war fantasies we had when we were ten; apparently not all of us.
