Let us start with an honest examination of the economic policies of the past 25 years before we start casting the blame, and then let us find solutions that are intrinsically fair for each and every person, no matter what their class.  Amnesties, interest-free loan paybacks, low-cost housing, single-party payer insurance for all…the list goes on and on.  Only in a level playing field, with basic human needs supported, can we fairly discuss consumer “overspending”.

Oh, and what about my BFF and the firm?  Well, she did okay for a while, but, like so many of us who bought into the well-marketed myth that we could climb the class ladder to wealth and leisure, my former BFF eventually learned that her ladder was unstable and her brass ring was made of aluminum foil.  She never made partner and is back firmly in the middle class.  Still holding on to her dream.  For the next time times are “good”.
