Gemini Solar Eclipse Chart by Cathy Pagano/Kepler

This Gemini New Moon partial solar eclipse occurs on Wednesday June 1, 2011 at 2:03pm PDT, 5:03pm EDT, 9:03pm GMT.

A new Moon initiates a new cycle of growth.   In the dark of the Moon, we plant a seed in the soil of the soul, a seed that grows quickly under the waxing moonlight as the Moon grows to fullness.

Now a solar eclipse is a special type of new Moon.   Eclipses occur when the Sun, Moon and Earth all line up on the ecliptic with the Moon's nodes.   Right now, the Moon nodes, which represent our collective evolution, are in the signs that rule the lower and higher Mind, Gemini and Sagittarius.   The South Node, which represents the energy that needs cultural renewal, is in Gemini, the sign that rules how we communicate, how we learn, how we think.   Our collective Mind has been overtaken by too much meaningless information.   The cure and renewal of the Mind comes from the North Node in Sagittarius, which focuses the Mind on Cosmic Law, the search for Truth, the need to access the Higher Archetypal Mind, especially if we're going to get through the changes that are coming our way in the years ahead.

The time to change how we think about life here on Earth is now!

Eclipses occur in series and this eclipse is part of Saros Series 118, which first appeared as a partial eclipse over the Antarctica region near the South Pole on 24 May in the year 803CE.  Every 18 years 11 days 8 hours (6585.3 days) Saros 118 has repeated itself at the same node of the Moon at almost the same distance from Earth and at approximately the same time of year, which is unusual for eclipse patterns -- this is a very focused eclipse series.    At that original eclipse back in 803 CE, the Sun and Moon were at 6* Gemini, with Jupiter conjunct the new Moon at 8* Gemini and in a grand air trine to both Pluto in Aquarius and Neptune in Libra.   This pattern underlies all the eclipses in this series.   A grand trine is a special geometric configuration; it implies an easy flow of creative energies.   Pluto in Aquarius deepens and evolves the collective Mind, while Neptune in Libra brings us visions of peace, fairness and love.   Add those energies to the Sun, Moon and Jupiter in Gemini, and we see a cosmic promise of a deep, penetrating and visionary Mind which can incarnate those ideals of freedom and choice that are so necessary for the next step humanity has to take.

Eclipses are also influenced by any of the fixed stars they join in the sky.   This eclipse is conjunct Aldebaran, the pale rose star marking the Bull's left eye.   It is one of the four Persian royal stars or Watchers of the Heavens.   It is of the nature of Mars, Mercury and Jupiter combined and gives honor, intelligence, eloquence, steadfastness, integrity, courage and good fortune.

The left eye is the eye of the Unconscious, the eye of the Imagination.   We can use this energy -- for the simple truth is, all of life is energy -- to open our minds and our hearts to a new vision of life.   Do it with honor and integrity, courage and intelligence and you'll be surprised by what you see and come to believe.   The Mind we are renewing includes renewing our core beliefs.   So watch your imagination and see if it is enhancing your life or polluting it.

Each of us has to find our own independence and we each do it through a different agency of life.   So for some people this will mean personal independence; for others it has to do with developing and honoring our gifts and talents; for still others it's how we use our minds. Do you have to get free from a deadening job, a family that doesn't understand you, a financial burden that is literally killing you?   Your birth chart can show you how and where you need to foster a new sense of independence, which in turn will change your whole life -- and the life of the people around you.     And the life of the world!

It's time to step up and take charge of your life, to bring together your Body, Mind and Spirit and begin to live out that freedom that is our spiritual birthright.

Astrological happenings:

Saturn turns direct on June 12th at 11*Libra : A professor peering over his glasses at his students.   This is a symbol of how we pass on knowledge -- we need to go beyond book learning and see what our people really need.

Saturn is the archetypal energy of limits, responsibility, frustration and reality.   Saturn is in a creative flow with this new Moon solar eclipse, so it will support this new Mind we are going to create.   Saturn in Venus' sign of partnership and the Arts is exulted.   Saturn here gives us the ability to manifest our visions of new partnership, of Art, of fairness and equality, if we take the knowledge to heart and know how to use it in the immediate moment.     Saturn will go forward until February 2012, where it retrogrades at 30* Libra.   Use this time to build new relationships.

Jupiter goes into Taurus on June 4th:   Jupiter is the archetypal energy of curiosity, expansion, luck and cosmic law.   Jupiter leaves the fiery sign of Aries, having boosted our confidence enough to now start to build on our new Archetypal Identity, and moves into Taurus, the sign of our self-worth and our Earth.   The Sabian symbol for 1*Taurus is: A clear mountain stream.   This is a symbol of our pure, uncontaminated nature, which is mostly composed of water.   So we need to own our water -- let go of the polluting feelings and open up to the wisdom that our life before now was our learning time.   So what have we learned from our old story?   And now just take that kernel of knowledge and start to imagine a new story based on our own original nature.   Our new potential is ready to burst forth and water our life.   Jupiter will stay in Taurus until June 11, 2012, expanding our opportunities to be good stewards of the Earth.   And during this year, please explore your values -- know what you value and always aim toward the experience that expands your values in the world.

Neptune turns retrograde on June 2nd.   Neptune is the archetypal energy of vision and the Waters of Life!    Neptune turns retrograde at 1*Pisces: In a crowded marketplace farmers and middlemen display a great variety of products.

This image is one of coming together to share the fruits of our labors, in community and in social activity.   Neptune here opens us to a vision of working together for a more fruitful society, one in which our labors are valued.   Neptune will retrograde back to 29* Aquarius before turning direct on November 9th.   Use this time to explore your inner world for its treasures.

I believe that Americans are called to a higher consciousness at this point in our history. We are called on to live up to our ideals and create the country our forefathers imagined. Inner consciousness needs to be acted upon for social justice.

Cathy believes that our writers and artists must take up our responsibility to create art that inspires, teaches and heals our humanity.

Cathy writes about political, psychological/spiritual, and cultural issues.
