Well it appears Monsanto enjoys putting on it's white John Wayne's "we're the good guys" hat. As much as John Wayne's being a "good guy hero" was revealed to be a macho man lie, Monsanto's white hat is also a pack of lies. Lets reflect upon the history of this sociopathic giant. According to Sourcewatch:
Agent Orange was manufactured by Monsanto, Dow Chemicals (manufacturers of napalm), Uniroyal, Hercules, Diamond Shamrock, Thompson Chemical and TH Agriculture. Monsanto [ was the main supplier. The Agent Orange produced by Monsanto had dioxin levels many times higher than that produced by Dow Chemicals, the other major supplier of Agent Orange to Vietnam.... Monsanto's involvement with the production of dioxin contaminated 2,4,5-T dates back to the late 1940s. 'Almost immediately workers started getting sick with skin rashes, inexplicable pains in the limbs, joints and other parts of the body, weakness, irritability, nervousness and loss of libido,' to quote Peter Sills, author of a forthcoming book on dioxins. Internal Monsanto memos show that Monsanto knew of the problems but once again a cover-up was the order of the day.... Operation Hades, later changed to Operation Ranch Hand, sprayed 6 million acres of forest in Vietnam, 19 million gallons of defoliant. The intention was to turn Vietnam into desert, to cause such destruction that Vietnam would never recover.... The most gruesome legacy caused by spraying Vietnam with dioxin contaminated Agent Orange was that born by the Vietnamese themselves. In a locked room of Tu Du Obstetrical and Gynaecological Hospital in Saigon are rows of formaldehyde-filled jars containing deformed foetuses, a grotesque illustration of Man's inhumanity to Man.
So, now all of a sudden they are champions of biodiversity? No! Do we really think they care about the well being of people given their history? Furthermore, these people are blatantly in line with the corporate standardization models. These models rule the roost in fields as diverse as manufacturing (i.e., factories) to psychotherapy (i.e., standardized methods such as Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST)) to education (e.g., Bush's "No Child Left Behind Act" which relies on standardized testing).
Lets take a look at the history of Monsanto. According to Organic Consummers Monsanto has been :
Generating massive greenhouse gas pollution (CO2, Methane, Nitrous Oxide) and global warming; while promoting false solutions such as industrial biofuels, drought-resistant crops, and genetically engineered trees
Polluting the environment and the soil-food web with pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and persistent toxins, Including dioxin
Turning farmland into desert, draining aquifers and wetlands
Poisoning drinking water, acidifying the oceans
Chopping down the rainforests for monoculture GMO crops, biofuels and cattle grazing
Increasing the cost of food, while reducing nutrition and biodiversity
Spawning pesticide-resistant "super" bugs and weeds, and antibiotic-resistant bacteria
Generating new and more virulent plant, animal and human diseases
Utilizing wasteful fossil fuel-intensive practices and encouraging the expansion of natural gas fracking and tar sands extraction (which destroy forests, aquifers, and farmland)
