Now I am convicted. I was the 4th governor to appoint this same man to an all-volunteer board who had earlier made a contribution to the pro-lottery campaign while nobody investigates the millions of casino dollars flowing in on the anti-lottery side....
I am up against a judge with whom I have had political trouble before he became a judge.
A prosecutor, whose husband was my opponent's campaign manager.
A felon turned into a false witness for the government to save himself after having been "interviewed 70 times" according to CBS' 60 Minutes.
Emails from jurors that indicate that they had an all too cozy relationship during the trial with the government.
And, most importantly, documents that would prove government misconduct have been withheld from us by the government, the prosecutors and now the Department of Justice since 2001. We filed a FOIA [Freedom of Information Act] request in 2006 and even the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, John Conyers, couldn't get DoJ to give us the documents. They are now the subject of a motion for discovery before a federal magistrate judge.
Countless letters have been written to the President and to Eric Holder and there continues to be stonewalling from DoJ. I can only imagine that the documents and witnesses like Abramoff would open a Pandora's box, and there are many powerful people who simply do not want that to happen.
Now, I am fighting for my freedom and for the truth. It is entirely possible I may get neither.
You must be pulling out your hair, Don! What's the timeline with your case? Is there something concerned citizens can do besides donate money to your legal fund, Don?
Write, call, email Eric Holder and tell him to read the documents that prove that my prosecutor had a gross conflict, read the documents that prove my prosecutors framed me with the false, coached testimony of a felon who was lying to get off Scott-free... and tell him to do for me what he did for Ted Stevens [ed: former US Senator from Alaska]: dismiss the case and move to vacate my conviction.
On another front, let's appeal to Jack Abramoff - If he really wants redemption. Come clean on everything he knows about Alabama.
Anything else before we wrap this up?
Joan, if Abramoff would open up and tell what really happened in Alabama it would help because Eric Holder could not ignore it. The coverage would be too great. I am expendable unless light is shined so brightly Eric Holder will have to take notice.
Got it. Good luck with this.
Joan, thank you so much for staying in touch with me, for your interest in me and my family and your concern for justice.
Thanks so much for talking with me again, Don.
