The tired and worn out Republican talking points about how President Obama fails to lead and how the world now views America is just under the surface of Mr. Chaney and his daughter's opinion piece. Long on rhetoric and accusations the harangue offers very little -- if at all- by way of solutions. The Chaneys are content to throw semantic and verbose bombs at the president but artfully dodge the topic of what would he and the other drum-beating neoconservatives do today in Iraq and what are their alternatives to President Obama's still evolving strategies.
Mum's the word. No specific suggestions. No grand strategy. No political thoughts. Just, well, you know, bomb or use air strikes. That ought to do the trick.
Maybe Mr. Chaney seems unable to comprehend that in this day and age in 2014 that just going back to the good old days when he was Vice President of the United States and loudly proclaiming that defeating terrorists "will require a strategy" is not policy. Nor yapping eloquently that the Iraqi Crisis "will require sustained difficult military, intelligence and diplomatic efforts -- not empty misleading rhetoric," is not a real solution.
And as his opinion piece states that (is he talking about Iraq? He kind of lost me here) "it will require rebuilding America's military capacity -- reversing the Obama policies that have weakened our armed forces and reduced our ability to influence events around the world."
Ho hum.
So let's see if I get this right because Mr. Chaney is the most eloquent spokesperson for the neoconservative group that got us into the Iraq war.
President Obama does not have a strategy to handle this new and dangerous crisis in Iraq. But, hey, we neocons don't have one either! When in doubt -- rebuild the military! Hooray! And yes, air strikes will do the trick! Because our military had been weakened by President Obama and the bleeding heart Liberals.
As the new Iraqi drama unfolds and takes on a life of its own the Republicans who tricked Americans into believing that Iraq was a clear and present danger, will again be making the case for a new ground war that we have no business getting into.
Like Mr. Chaney and company they will take to the airwaves to sell us the Brooklyn Bridge to Baghdad - again. They won't bring up what an unmitigated disaster the war was; they'll hope decent Americans forget that they supported it, and they won't mention that it was Bush who signed the agreement to remove all the troops from Iraq by 2011. They will say almost nothing about what they would do differently now, other than to say we have to be "strong" and "send the right message" to the terrorists.
I don't know about you but I am sure tired of all the delusional noises from the Right.
