The cheese inside the foil wrapper was covered in mold. Not past its expiration date either. The managers response: "We gave you something extra!" as if it was a joke. I was furious.
The clam dip was so rotten the clams had turned to a brown jelly. I ate a chip with clam dip on it before I saw the brown jelly. I thought I was going to go to the emergency room for food poisoning.
A tomato I picked up was so rotten my fingers went all the way into it.
Salad dressing was past its expiration date. The clerk came over to help me and quietly pulled all of the salad dressing off the shelf.
A head of lettuce was completely rotten under the top layer of leaves-- not noticeable through the plastic wrapper. I had bought it and found out after I had it home. It went right back to the store.
Apples were brown inside. every apple I have bought there has been brown inside.
A pineapple the produce worker picked out for me was moldy on the bottom. he saw it and sniffed at it. I trusted him until then.
A pomegranate was completely white inside.
A grapefruit was white inside.
Lemons were brown inside.
Onions were rotten.
Ice cream was at its expiration date.
These are all I can remember for now. this is all at one store. I no longer shop there. The store is only a third of a mile from where I live.
I have to go three miles to a Safeway to do my shopping. I have to be careful there too. Buyer beware! If it is on sale it is usually close to its expiration date.
Then a few weeks ago while I was talking to the man who works in produce he coughed all over the lettuce as he was talking. He did not put his hand in front of his mouth. He did not even turn away. He was taking the rotten leaves off the lettuce and rewrapping it. I have not talked to him since.
