Breaking News the American People Are Waiting, Hoping to Hear - But Will They Ever?

After intensive meetings in the Congress , with the involvement of White House representatives, funds were approved for a massive program to repair and rebuild this nation's infrastructure. Returning veterans, as they leave the service, will be given a very high priority in obtaining the associated jobs. Almost all of this funding has been appropriated by transfers from the Defense Dept. and the Pentagon. The rapidly deteriorating infrastructure will now be repaired and rebuilt, creating millions of badly need jobs for Americans.

The president has announced that funds have been approved for an ambitious, high priority program to, once again, make America the leader in world education. The federal government and the states will collaborate on new educational initiatives that will dramatically increase the level of this nation's academic achievements. Once again, the necessary funds have been made available by the large reduction in the Defense Dept. budget and the cutting back of U.S. military installations around the world.

Following the newly reconstituted Supreme Court's reversal of the Citizens United case where U.S. Corporations were given the same rights as the American people, a bipartisan supported vote in the Congress has enacted historic legislation that will establish a system by which taxpayer dollars will be the only funding sources for national elections. This law will prevent corporations from making any form of monetary contributions in the political process. Strong, effective campaign finance reform has finally come to America.

Of course, these breaking news headlines are merely a fictional illustration of what could happen in this nation if those who are responsible for governing this country could somehow be persuaded or even forced, by some means, to finally put aside politics and work together. But before we can find the ways to make those headlines a reality we have to stop and consider the depth to which our current political system has now descended and then maybe we can better understand how to make that happen.

Every single individual of any political party that occupies the halls of our government in Washington D.C., from the White House to the Congress, to the Supreme Court must share the responsibility and, yes the guilt, for the massive problems that continue to plague this nation. What's going on in Washington can no longer be considered to be just a matter of politics; it is so much deeper. It involves morals, ethics, honor, integrity and dedication to country. Those who facilitate our endless agenda of war are bloodthirsty, immoral human beings; those who allow themselves to be corrupted by the money and power of corporations are devoid of honesty and integrity; those in the Congress, on both sides of the aisle, who scheme to cut social programs for their fellow Americans and use the funds to benefit the richest of Americans are unconscionable, despicable. Those who allow the manipulators of Wall Street to continue to cheat and scam the American people are low grade political scum.

However ugly it might be, politics is not the biggest problem in this country; it is a symptom of something much deeper. The root cause of our major problems and the reason that this country continues to spiral downward is that it is rapidly losing its moral foundations and that's why we are going in the wrong direction and can't seem to get back on the right track. When a nation loses its sense of morality then what is there left but an empty shell without meaning or purpose.

So we can wait and we can hope that some day we will be witness to those breaking news headlines that herald the transformation of this government and this society. We can think of that possibility as the good news. Now, here's the bad news; that will never happen, we will never see those headlines unless one monumental, very dramatic change takes place in America. There is one major obstacle that stands in the way of that happening.

The American political process has been totally contaminated by a deadly poisonous substance, that being corporate money. Until and unless we find a way to remove every single dollar of corporate money from the political system and this government, nothing is going to change for the better and things are going to continue to grow even worse. But, as bad as it may seem, it is not an insurmountable problem.
