Electing a progressive black man for President was an easy first step in the wake of the eight-year Bush disaster. Now that Bush has been run out of town, it will be white America's job to ensure that Obama's presidency is not just another symbolic gesture, but a first step in a recommitment to Dr. King's dream and to the promises that America has made to itself. The hard work begins now.
