Our banking system is a sham and has been for over 90 years. Few realize that the Federal Reserve is a private institution and that it is illegal according to the Constitution. It was created for bankers by bankers. Furthermore, it is associated with the International Bank of Settlements, a shadowy consortium of bankers based in Switzerland who run the world financial system. In her article entitled, "The Tower of Basel: Do We Really Want the Bank for International Settlements Issuing our Global Currency?", Ellen Brown highlights historian Dr. Carroll Quigley's research into this organization as documented in his book Tragedy and Hope: A History of the World in Our Time (1966):
"[T]he powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent private meetings and conferences. The apex of the system was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations."
11She furthermore points out Quigley's point that these bankers would attain success by posing as government entities while simultaneously manipulating and controlling the money system. In the news we often hear the words International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, World Trade Organization (WTO). These three organizations, whose origins are of the Bretton Woods Agreements, are interrelated and meant to serve the purpose of financial domination. The overarching purpose is free-trade. However, participation with these organizations comes with a price, usually resulting in the forfeiture of national sovereignty. Michel Chussoduvsky provides excellent illustration into this phenomenon in his book The Globalization of Poverty and the New World Order (2003). Essentially, trade deregulation is key in eliminating all barriers to all markets, which "enable multinational corporations to penetrate local markets and extend their control over virtually all areas of national manufacturing, agriculture and the service economy."12 The Articles of Agreement of the WTO allow for an entitlement of sorts for multinationals to engage in the decimation of societies and their ability to manage their own economies and social affairs.13 The is similar to what we are experiencing in the United States with the Sub-Prime meltdown and its subsequent financial implosion. The name of the game is "indebtedness forever" by convincing victims to take loans that they will never be able to repay. The conditions of the loans stipulate that countries "restructure" their economies so as to operate more efficiently. This usually means slashing budgets and social programs, and allowing for the private sector to take over agencies that are usually state run. Multinationals come in and have wide access to natural resources and business enterprises. This in turn puts the "little guys" out of business, creates unemployment and widespread havoc. Profits are generated, but most go to service the debt which stuffs the pockets of the Paris and London Clubs, generally known as the G-20.14 Ironically, the IMF, World Bank, and World Trade Organization claim as their mission to alleviate poverty. Nothing could be further from the truth.
That which has been put forth in this writing barely scratches the surface of the criminal-like behavior, especially by the wealthiest of nations, which threatens to imperil humanity. This being said, the author recognizes that there is nothing new under the sun. Trickery and deception have been around for as long as man has roamed the earth. However, in this country, the United States of America, our freedom and respect as people are under terrible assault. This is not due to terrorism, as the predominant corporate media would have us believe, but by those who want nothing more to control everything- literally. It goes without saying that those responsible for the financial mess do not care whether or not the family on main street can make their respective financial obligations. They do not care that people's hard-earned retirement funds have been either destroyed or seriously deteriorated. It matters little that a friend's $18, 000 college fund for her daughter is now worth only $9, 000. Who cares that people's sons and daughters are fighting for what amounts to geopolitical chess and not FREEDOM! What difference does it make if you need a doctor but can't afford insurance? Meanwhile, we pay for our congressmen and women to have lifelong health benefits as they allow the bankers to glide on their golden parachutes.
We must get beyond the steady morphine drip of Dancing with the Stars and American Idol. We must look behind the scenes to find out, as Marvin Gaye sings, "What's Goin' On". We need to recognize that many of those who purport to be our leaders are false prophets, emperors with no clothes and no conscience. If perhaps a quarter of the people in this country knew what was really going on, and held those responsible accountable, we might see real change.
