President Lincoln on May 15, 1862 "in the aftermath of staggering causalities suffered during the bloody Union victory at Shiloh, and with Federal armies advancing" on Corinth, Mississippi, signed the legislation creating the Department of Agriculture.
This legislation eventually put an agricultural agent in every county in America to help farmers continually improve their methods and produce better and better crops.
Today government agencies are under fire.
Perhaps President Obama might create a new vision and use those county agents, who are still present in every county in America--even the ones without farms, to teach continual improvement and systems thinking to schools, government agencies, and businesses.
Let's not forget again the principles that made us a great nation.
