One of the most troubling aspects of these fiscal cliff discussions has been the performance of President Obama. He has the people of America solidly behind him, he holds the winning hand, and has Boehner and the GOP against the ropes. But, as we have seen so often, he is again waffling and giving up ground. Just today he made another concession whereby he is offering up cuts to Social Security and Medicare. His fellow Democrats in Congress, if they have any spine left, should make it very clear that they will not support his latest cave-in to the Republicans.
Instead of cutting social programs that benefit people why doesn't this president demand reductions in exorbitant military spending? The people of America reelected him to do what is right for this country but it's becoming apparent that he is, once again, bending to the pressures of the Washington Establishment and the Military-Industrial Complex. This is a man who implored the people to reelect him and now he repays them by throwing their needs and concerns under the bus. If he goes through with this, it will be a clear betrayal of the people's trust in him.
These many incompetents, including both Republicans and Democrats that barely do more than take up space in Congress, are giving a pass to the biggest spending area of all, the U.S. military; it's something that must not be discussed, it's sacred, it's untouchable, and totally off limits. This government and these many pathetic politicians seemingly are willing to continue to let the most important foundations of this country decay and erode in order to satisfy their obsession with war and empire.
It's time that the American people wake up to these facts and fully understand that when your country is in the throes of continuing decline and your financial condition is rapidly deteriorating that you have no choice but to dramatically scale back the monumental military spending.
How many more wars must we wage, how many more military bases do we need, and how much more of the declining wealth of America must be shoveled into the furnaces of war before this government comes to its senses and realizes that it is driving America down a path to disaster; call it a fiscal cliff if you wish, but let's just say this; there would not be such a thing as a fiscal cliff if it were not for these obscene expenditures by the Pentagon and the continued expansion of the American military empire.
