As has been shown over the past 60 years mutual defense alliances between the United States and 58 other nations have been the major factor in securing world peace and stability through the deterrence of acts of aggression. Public opinion surveys indicate that the Jewish public no longer accepts the principle learned from the Holocaust that Israel must rely only on itself. The emergence of a Jihadist presence in the North and East of Israel coupled to a possible nuclear Iran augments the Jewish public's support for a formal Mutual Defense Treaty with the United States.
