But he also saved lives. He helped starving people at a time when the prosecutors and the judge and you and I meekly paid our taxes and allowed our Presidents to mandate the slow deaths of hundreds of thousands of children. That should count for something.

The man has been in prison for his white collar crimes for seven years.

We know our government is expert in using every form of violence, propaganda and torture. But how about trying something very different.

What if the government showed Rafil Dhafir mercy? What effect might that have internationally?, in Iraq?, in the "Muslim world"? And what effect might it have in cleansing our own very compromised consciences?

After many legal actions Dhafir is up for resentencing. There is a website with information about his case. It includes a link to a petition which calls for his sentence to be reduced to time served. It's http://www.dhafirtrial.net/ Check it out.
