She was the three-term Mayor of the City of Cincinnati from December 1993 until November 1999 when she was term limited from office. Prior to that she served for one two-year term on Cincinnati City Council after she was first elected in 1991. Heather Ryan - ran for Kentucky’s 1st Congressional Seat as a first-time candidate against incumbent Ed Whitfield in 2008. Heather put forth a valiant effort although she lost that election.

Virginia Woodward - is the current Executive Director of Boards and Commissions for Kentucky Governor, Steven Beshear. Ms. Woodward ran for the Kentucky Senate in 1994 and lost by 45 votes. She ran again in 2004 and lost a close race to a candidate who was proven (through a court challenge) to be ineligible due to residing out of state. Despite her disappointing political defeats, Virginia Woodward has become a strong advocate for women’s issues and electing female candidates. She is the former executive director of the Kentucky Commission on Women, immediate past president of the Kentucky Women’s Political Caucus and current president of the Louisville Metro Women’s Network.
Women make up only 17% of the members of Congress. Electwomen.com is setting out to change that.
