Gerald Ford - Committed the ultimate gaff shortly before the election. He stated on television that Poland was not under Soviet control. Even the president of the Polish American Congress, Ford's friend could not help with the fallout. The vote went to Jimmy Carter.
Jimmy Carter -We are all familiar with the Iran hostage crisis during Jimmy Carter's administration. What cost Jimmy Carter the next election was that the negotiated release of the hostages did not happen before the election. The Reagan camp knew that if the hostages were released Jimmy Carter would be a national hero and unbeatable. Because it didn't happen, Reagan was able to stoke the flames of nationalist fervor and patriotism.
Ronald Reagan is a direct product of the ABN. Michael Keith Deaver co-founded the public relations company, Deaver and Hannaford in 1975. The company "booked Reagan's public appearances, research and sell his radio program, and ghost-write his syndicated column." Peter Dale Scott claims that "all this was arranged with an eye to Reagan's presidential aspirations, which Deaver and Hannaford helped organize from the outset".
In 1977 Deaver and Hannaford registered with the Justice Department as foreign agents, receiving $5,000 a month from the government of Taiwan (APACL-WACL). They also received $11,000 a month from a group called Amigos del Pais (Friends of the Country) in Guatemala. The head of Amigos del Pais was Roberto Alejos Arzu (WACL). He was the principal organizer of Guatemala's "Reagan for President" organization. Arzu was a CIA asset who in 1960 allowed his plantation to be used to train Cuban exiles for the Bay of Pigs invasion.
Peter Dale Scott argues that funds from military dictatorships (WACL) "helped pay for the Deaver and Hannaford offices, which became Reagan's initial campaign headquarters in Beverly Hills and his Washington office." This resulted in Ronald Reagan developing the catch-phrase: "No more Taiwans, no more Vietnams, no more betrayals." He also argued that if he was elected as president he "would re-establish official relations between the United States Government and Taiwan". "
On 22nd September, 1980, Iraq invaded Iran. The Iranian government was now in desperate need of spare parts and equipment for its armed forces. Jimmy Carter proposed that the US would be willing to hand over supplies in return for the hostages. Spartacus- John Simkin
Through the ABN-WACL, Reagan was able to circumvent this. Carter's deal was leaked to Reagan and the press by the CIA. Its failure cost him the election. This became known as the October Surprise, and through heavy ABN-WACL maneuvering, funding, bloc votes and support, Reagan won the election.
At the center of Iran-Contra as journalist Robert Parry made famous was longtime Yaroslav Stetsko friend General John Singlaub;co-founder of the CIA and head of WACL USA. Stetskos ABN-APACL-WACL-OUNb-UCCA was at the center of one of America's greatest scandals.
Slava Stetsko 1988 stated it clearly: "Our people here are not electing a Democrat or a Republican. They are electing a man or woman who has some kind of integrity. They try to learn what ideas he or she represents and stands for. Men or women of great caliber and values win our vote."
What Did the Nazis Gain?
White House staffer and future first lady of Ukraine, Katherine Chumachenko coordinated ABN matters as part of her duties at the Reagan Office of Public Affairs. Under the Reagan/Bush presidencies a parade of questionable east central European exiles, including members of the Iron Guard, Ustasha, OUN, and others enjoyed some official support despite legitimate criticism of their extreme nationalism. According to a press release issued by the Ukrainian National Information Service, circa 1984, from the Reagan Library Katherine Chumachenko file, these affiliated organizations included the World Anti-Communist league, the US Council for World Freedom, the National Captive Nations Committee, and the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America. The
ABN were given posts throughout the Reagan administration. They had a
seat on the National Security Council. Marvin Liebman, of the China
Lobby, APACL, and WACL, was a special consultant to the Reagan
Administration.
Through Reagan, WACL started freeing its Central American groups, one of which were the infamous Contras Reagan.
George HW Bush
From his days at the CIA, George Bush senior was the president that was most familiar with the emigre nationalists. When the Soviet Union fell and Ukraine was gaining its independence he made what is known as the Chicken Kiev speech. In it he made clear that Bandera would not set up the government in Ukraine.
