Political Film Blog readers:

I have amended the tagline at the top of the blog to include anti-fascism.  That concept is a firm motivating factor that drives much of the content there.  It is simply not okay to tolerate fascism, fascistic ideas and fascistic abuses out there in the real world nor those promoted in the cinema or on television.

Fascism is clearly understood as a highly nationalistic merger of corporate and state power, an unaccountable, corrupt regime that pits those two interests against those of the common citizens.  Corporate/state partnerships are rife with abuse, and they enable resource wars around the globe, imperialism and the destruction of civil liberties at home -- even those guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States.

Fascism is a plague upon the earth, and its current iterations are more covert than in the old days.  They no longer dress up in pompous attire and march through the center of town.  They no longer need to.  Fascism today is largely a matter of selling a false reality to the masses so that they remain indifferent to the atrocities of the corporate/state complex.  Propaganda has succeeded in creating myths that replace factual reporting and investigation.  It is no longer important to find out the truth if one believes the myth, the Big Lie surrounding whatever issue the corporate/state sees fit to spin.

Examples are too numerous to name here.  See the blog itself for more on that.

It disheartens me that most of these cutting-edge reports, from reliable sources are ignored there.  The Ukraine, Syria and Libya fiascoes garner few to no "like" clicks, as people seem to be too afraid to register their approval, or else they are so disinterested that they simply don't care about large piles of dead civilians.  Either explanation is abhorrent to me.

The citizens of this empire allow the government a free hand to operate with impunity around the world.  There are no marches against Obama's atrocities.  There are no calls for an end to drone murder and covert wars across numerous nations.  Most of these conflicts stay pointedly out of the corporate news, the spinners of myth, which approximately 90% of Americans rely upon for their views.  One might quote George Dubya at this point with his "Fool me once, shame on you-- shtick.

You have been fooled by a highly censored corporate media.  You will be fooled again by this same highly censored corporate media.

What we have today is a plummeting freedom index.  All our digital communications and online presences are under surveillance.  This is illegal, and yet it continues without legal accountability by a military industrial complex that now treats innocent citizens as the enemy in its self-styled global battlefield.  If that doesn't give one pause, then it's pointless communicating with them whatsoever.  The implications of a totalitarian surveillance regime are too odious to bother explaining.  This should be obvious to grown adults.

America fundamentally lacks an anti-imperialist major party.  Both the Democrats and the Republicans are reliable, corrupt perpetrators of imperial aggression.  This record is long, bloodstained and highly consistent.  The only difference is in style.  The Democrats prefer covert actions that stay out of the newspapers.  The Republicans prefer overt bombing and invasions that bolster their egos.  Both are fundamentally immoral and unrestrained by international or even domestic laws.

And so each year we become a more belligerent, unaccountable empire: a more fascistic place, a more dangerous place, a more destructive place.  When the corporate/state no longer needs to worry about the opinions of the masses, then we are in deep trouble.

Fascism used to be frowned upon.  Today we have top leaders posing for photographs with an unabashed Ukrainian Nazi, Oleh Tyahnybok, as they brag about $5 Billion of US tax money spent to overthrow the democratically elected government there.  This overthrow helps US oil and gas giant Chevron, which is bragged about by Obama's state department functionary Victoria Nuland.

When US officials like Victoria Nuland and John McCain feel no aversion to posing for photographs with open Nazis, we have a serious problem.  America has long partnered with tyrants, such as the regimes of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and across the globe.  These tyrants are junior partners, critical instruments in the functioning of the empire.
