'Stop Handgun Violence' Unveils New Billboard In Boston To Close Gun Show Loophole
(The organization Stop Handgun Violence debuted its new 252 foot long billboard along the Mass. Pike to call on Congress to "close the gun show loophole.")
In this week's Freedom States Alliance Update the story of Mary McFate, who was outed as an NRA spy in a July 30th Mother Jones article, continues to grow. ABC News reported that a McCain insider, "James Jay Baker, served as executive director of the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) in the late 1990s when it allegedly hired a woman, [Mary McFate], to pose as a gun control activist and funnel information back to the NRA" -- see coverage below.
In our news section, several features include: reactions to the Texas Harrold School district's plan to arm teachers, Mayor Bloomberg endorses Congressman Mark Kirk's (IL) legislation to close the "fire sale loophole," and a spotlight on stories about gun massacres published in Esquire and Rolling Stone.
Finally, in our advocacy update, we posted an op-ed from FSA affiliate, Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence, about the dangers of keeping a gun in the home.
Sincerely,
Freedom States Alliance
Update: Brady Campaign Claims McCain Insider Had Ties to NRA Spy Op, Mary "McFate"
James Jay Baker, who currently serves as a member of McCain's Sportsman Committee, was executive director of the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action when it allegedly hired Mary "McFate" - also known as Mary Lou Sapone.
Bloomberg's appearance with a gathering of area mayors and police chiefs ... joined U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk, R-Highland Park, in calling on Washington to close a loophole that allows gun dealers to sell their inventory without background checks if they lose their Federal Firearms License.
"Can you imagine what would happen if we arrested a drug dealer, and before we took him in, we allowed him to sell all his (drugs)?" Bloomberg said. "There would be a riot."
The courts have ruled the police do not have to protect you. By the time they arrive your life could already be forfeit. So go ahead be a victim, it's the criminal not the weapon. Look at England, they ban guns and knife violence is on the rise.

obviously an elect Obama campaign fear piece. Never mind the blatant lies and half-truths, this is gorilla campaign tactics where lies are not only acceptable but a staunch requirement.
America needs a government that will feed and protect us. We need a president who will disarm this nation and keep us from harm. Sure they will, with full police powers.
McCain is certainly not the answer...nor is Obama. Status quo is what you want and status quo is what you'll get regardless of which loser you vote for. But disarming all Americans? I don't think so.

Obama has always made it known that he believes the 2nd Amendment acknowledges an individual right.
And I agree that the content of this advertisement represents an unhealthy, extremist view that is bad for democracy, and completely contrary to the intent of the Founders and our Constitution.
If you don't want to own a weapon, I will never tell you that you must own one. Don't presume to tell me that I can't.

The goal should be to stop all violence. If you could magically(that is what it would take) take away all guns, people would just find other ways of attacking each other. This has been going on since we climbed out of the bog. I purchased a couple of guns recently and was somewhat amazed at how easy it was to do, so, yes I think we need to work on monitoring guns sales and ownership. I am not a fan of the NRA(a paranoid close-minded group) at all but they are correct when they point out that it is the person behind the gun who is responsible, not the gun. It seems that our whole society is bent on putting responsibility in someone else's lap. We need to get back to personal responsibility and put quite a few lawyers out of jobs. Our educational "system" is quite lacking in teaching responsibility to our young and God knows a great many of our parents do not teach it. On top of this the pressure of over-population is ever growing and naturally, no one is doing anything about that either. We are really not much different than rats when it comes to too many of us in too little of a space. Economic conditions, political pressure, job stress, marital/dating conditions, etc. all add more fuel to the fire that creates violence which begats shootings. We stand a lot better chance at curbing the conditions that create violence than we will at keeping weapons(knives, spears, grenades, guns) out of peoples hands.

Gun Control Advocates Have Their Heads in the Sand!
That's putting it politely. How can *anyone* realistically believe that laws banning or restricting guns will deter criminals and terrorists???
That's *NUTS!!* of course they won't.
If you really want people to be safe in their homes you have to advocate that people can use their God-given right to protect themselves.
Say you were a criminal and wanted to rob or kill. Would you get rid of your gun because someone told you to? Are you kidding me?
And if you are a law-abiding citizen, you are being told not to have a gun. If you obey (and you are still law-abiding if you disobey as gun control laws are unconstitutional) you are vulnerable.
If I am a crook and want to rob your home, I will certainly be more inclined to do it if I think you have no gun in the house. For if you have one, I will not take the risk, or at least will wait until I am sure nobody is there.
This is a no-brainer. Government knows this, and the powers-that-be really don't care whether you live or die. They want *control.*
Gun control is *people* control and make no mistake about that.
Gun laws vary from State to State. Here in California it is no small exercise to exercise your Second Amendment rights.
I submitted an article on the flaws of some of these gun laws yesterday but the "Administrator" e-mailed "This article covers a topic or news too old. It could be hours or weeks old. But it is no longer "fresh" enough for us to cover it." What??? The anti-rights tripe in this article proves my submission is timely.
Fight the criminals not the tools
