One reason is the Administration's trade strategy, based on fragmented thinking, is to double exports and blindly let the chips fall where they may with imports. Failing, thus far, to be on track doubling export, in the words of Mayor Bloomberg, "the Obama administration appears to be on the verge of bowing to pressure from a powerful special-interest group, the tobacco industry, in a move that would be a colossal public health mistake and potentially contribute to the deaths of tens of millions of people around the world"; all to meet a goal that was shortsighted from the beginning.
How can Bill and Melinda Gates, as well as, Warren Buffett, who have pledge a substantial portion of the extraordinary accumulation of wealth to support world health initiatives, stand by in silent while tobacco neutralizes their bequests?
