Does anyone really understand a "light year"? One light year is beyond the mind's comprehension. It is the distance that light travels in one year. You must think in seconds to begin to grasp this: Light travels at 186,000 miles per second. How many seconds in a year? Times that by the number preceding, and you'll begin to get it. Now consider thousands of millions of years, and ponder some locally visible galaxies. |
