August 2011 by Mark Mitchell It should be clear to anyone who has read...this series that manipulative short selling contributed to the financial crisis of 2008. And it could happen again. Or, rather, it may already be happening again. That's why multiple governments in Europe last week took dramatic steps to curb short selling of financial stocks. But expect no such action from U.S. regulators. No matter how brazen the attacks, no matter how far the markets sink, the Securities and Exchange Commission has stated unequivocally that it intends to do nothing. |
