A necessary corrective published in openDemocracy to a recent OpEdNews piece by Ahmad Barqawi, 'Syria: Turning Back the Clock on the Arab Spring'. The writer identifies the primary factions and the reasons for internal dissension in a far more realistic and objective manner than the Barqawi piece. A view from cultural theory would be a welcome addition to the discussion, given that sectarianism in an honor-based moiety would promise a refreshing perspective.
