|Exactly one year after the Marriage Equality Act in New York went into effect, same-sex marriages have generated an estimated $259 million in economic impact for the city, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Council Speaker Christine Quinn announced Tuesday. At least 8,200 same-sex marriage licenses were issued in the last year, accounting for more than 10% of the 75,000 marriage licenses issued in New York City total during that time period. 'Marriage equality has made our city more open, inclusive and free,' Mr. Bloomberg said in a statement. 'And it has also helped to create jobs and support our economy.'|
