|In 2003, the Bush administration convinced the Japanese gov't to accept $10T (yes, that's trillion) to finance and install a missile defense system to protect against North Korea. The Japanese had to provide $1T. The notoriously corrupt gov't officials were overriding their Self Defense (Japanese equivalent of a military) generals who opposed it because of cost and because they objected to changing Japan's previous neutral stance toward North Korea. This recent op-ed from a large Tokyo newspaper implies that the governments's decision is playing out poorly.|
