Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley's (R) decision to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge authored by anti-tax zealot Grover Norquist 'is hardly leadership,' the Birmingham News editorial board wrote today. Alabama, the editorial notes, 'ranks dead last among states in combined state and local taxes collected per person,' but Bentley has refused to consider tax increases despite shortfalls in education funding and other areas. 'The only taxpayers Bentley is protecting with Norquist's Taxpayer Protection Pledge are the wealthiest Alabamians,' the board wrote.
