| Consumer spending can no longer be the engine of American economic growth and prosperity. Consumer confidence supporting compulsive materialism will not return. But the key problem is what can replace consumer spending? And whether the government stimulus program will work in replacing consumer spending with something other than borrowing money and increasing federal debt. |
