My practice was a cohort for the New Standards because I know what learning looks like, and this looks like ' integrated learning'. Integrated simply means that teachers of all content and disciplines any opportunity to add vocabulary, mathematical concepts, or critical thinking skills Integrated learning is not the same as all the magical elixirs school administrators (not educators) push on kids because they were sold an idea by some 'reformer' now shilling for a private company, but many of the parent comments on this page, show little grasp of this. My best practice was at a Manhattan middle school, which INTEGRATED reading and writing into ALL disciplines with great success.
