The linked article justifies both political parties' position on free trade, stating the Republicans are right as to how global trade should be conducted and the Democrats are right as it has been distorted by our "Trading Partners" and by our "intentional" blindness. President Reagan is credited as the last American President to get it right on how free trade must work.
President Reagan had the luxury of having America's Multinationals, still holding shared-values with America's Middle Class, pressuring Congress and ultimately him to forge the Plaza Accord in 1985, resulting in the depreciate the U.S. dollar in relation to the Japanese yen and German Mark by currency market intervention.
Unfortunately, for the last 20 years America's Multinationals have pressured U.S. Administrations to not label China and other U.S. trading partners as currency manipulators.
