Members of the Republican congressional leadership acknowledged having been told about suggestive emails to one page since early 2006, though they took no formal action nor publicly released statements. Subsequent reports, however, revealed that congressional pages were warned by their Republican mentors not to fraternize with Foley as far back as the 2001-2002 congressional session.
