| The 9th ed. of 'The Federal Reserve System: Purposes and Functions,' describes the Federal Reserve as 'subject to oversight by the U.S. Congress.... therefore, the description of the System as 'independent within the government' is more accurate.'(p.3) This is challenged by the court decision that ruled the Fed Banking System are 'independent, privately owned and locally controlled corporations,' and not a Federal agency. |
