| Canada will issue a formal apology and pay $8.5 million to software engineer Maher Arar, who was mistakenly labelled a terrorist by Canadian authorities. He was then arrested in New York by U.S. authorities and shipped to Syria where he endured a year of torture. Arar is also suing the U.S., which still has him on the terrorist watch list, despite Canada's having admitted their mistake. |
