|New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg joined the chorus of lawmakers pressuring President Barack Obama and Congress to take action on gun control in the wake of a mass shooting Friday morning in Newtown, Conn. that killed at least 26. 'President Obama rightly sent his heartfelt condolences to the families,' Bloomberg said in a statement to reporters. 'But the country needs him to send a bill to Congress.' 'For every day we wait, 34 more people are murdered with guns,' he continued. 'Today, many of them were five-year olds.' The Republican-turned-Independent mayor is an outspoken advocate for gun control, and endorsed Obama just before his election earlier this year. 'It has come to [this],' Bloomberg added, 'Not even kindergarteners learning their A,B,Cs are safe.'|
