Spong: 'By entering into the American political process so blatantly and by forcing the issue of contraceptives into that debate so centrally, the Catholic bishops have blurred the lines between church and state rather considerably.' Although provoked by the late crackdown on Roman Catholic Nuns by conservative Vatican clerics, (Episcopal) Bishop Spong assails the intrusion of the dogma of conservative Christian groups into matters of governance.
