| The Senate cleared the fiscal 2009 defense authorization bill Saturday, sending the measure to President Bush for his signature. The massive measure would authorize about $611 billion for national-security programs in the Defense and Energy departments in the fiscal year that begins Oct.1. It also includes about $68 billion for expenses related to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in the initial months of the fiscal year. |
