What is OpEdNews and what can it be?
When I first discovered OEN I had just created a blog but I was getting no readership, so that OEN gave me a place to put forth my ideas about politics and get responses. I found it also to be an endless fountain of ideas and a diverse group of writers, many of which I found very excellent. If the election of President Obama proved anything, it was the power of the Internet and the ability that gave to connect millions of us ordinary voters. OEN has given the ordinary citizen journalist a place to be heard but also a place that can not only promote policy ideas, but also influence elections. There has been an outrage by many Americans over the influence of the mainstream media when it comes to the political arena. There are “talking heads” on multiple networks, many times promoting the owner’s politics, with billions of dollars of add revenues to push their agenda. My question is, how do you see OEN’s place in this battle. Is OEN simply for entertainment (like my blog) or information? Should it try and promote certain candidates or certain legislation? I made a small donation to a congressman from a piece I read on OEN last fall and I cannot even tell you his name or state. My point is, that I did this because of an article posted by a person I did not even know, nor a candidate I did not know either and that translate as political power. So, where do you think OEN should go.
