Tax on Internet Purchases

States have long wanted some way to tax purchases of goods sold over the internet.  The cost of implementing such a proposal and strong voter resistence has prevented any legislation from getting off the ground.  With the change in Washington, the likelihood of a bill authorizing sales taxes on internet purchases passing is very good.

And with the downturn in the economy and states running up large deficits states are looking for new sources of revenue so that they do not have to cut back on spending.
